My CTV segment yesterday featured a fantastic urban walkabout around the Glenmore Reservoir. The complete map is in my book, Calgary’s Best Walks, and offers lots of options to get off the paved regional pathway and into the single track trail system in the Weaslehead and other hidden wilderness trails.

I took CTV viewers snowshoeing on my latest segment. Watch the segment here!

If you want to know more about where to snowshoe, maps and trails, check out my post on where to snowshoe in and around Calgary. And for more info on snowshoeing, where to rent, what to bring, take a read of my snowshoe page on this website.

Snowshoeing is great exercise, just like walking but slower, in spectacular terrain. It is a wonderful family activity (bring the crazy carpets and the shovels for snow caves). It is a wonderful, FREE, outing that refreshes the mind and the body.

Comments Off on CTV Walking Wednesday- Confederation Park winter walkabout, Calgary

I took CTV viewers to Confederation Park this week for a winter walkabout along the paved pathway system. The route in my book continues into the neighbourhoods of Mount Pleasant and Capital Hill where hungry walkers can make a tasty pit stop at Edelwiess German Cafe and store and at Weeds Capuccino.

Walked the rolling Jackrabbit Trail along the Glenmore Reservoir this week on CTV morning. Kids love this rolling single track trek and for those needing a nature break, this is the ticket! This is route 25 in Calgary’s Best Walks. Just follow the map!

CTV Walking Wednesday: How to dress for Calgary Winter Walkabouts

January 13, 2016
Comments Off on CTV Walking Wednesday: How to dress for Calgary Winter Walkabouts

If you want some tips on how to dress for winter walkabout, check out my CTV segment.

Key points

1. Layer up: Temperatures change rapidly in Calgary. With many layers you can adjust your temperature.

2. Get a pair of traction devices for your shoes or boots. Post-Chinook Calgary can be VERY slippery. Traction devices will keep you upright and injury free.

3. Down is your friend at -20 or below. A long down jacket will keep your butt warm. This is really important (in my opinion)

Now get out there and enjoy some winter walks. How about at Glenbow Ranch Pronvincial Park, photo below. It is route number 1 in my guidebook, Calgary’s Best Walks.
